Bachelor of Special Education Teaching is a highly respected, clinically intensive four-year undergraduate program that trains graduates to become expert Special Education Teachers who professionally assess, plan, teach, and rehabilitate children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, hearing and visual impairments, specific learning disabilities, speech-language disorders, physical disabilities, emotional-behavioral disorders, and giftedness in special education schools, rehabilitation centers, source rooms within mainstream schools, and private special education institutions throughout Turkey.From the first semester, students master the entire special education curriculum required by the Ministry of National Education: child development and atypical development, individualized education programs (IEP), functional assessment and curriculum adaptation, evidence-based teaching methods (TEACCH, ABA, PECS, sensory integration, structured teaching), behavior management and positive behavior support, assistive technology and AAC devices, braille and sign language, inclusive education practices, family counseling, and Turkish special education legislation (Decree-Law 573, BİLSEM regulations). Clinical practice exceeds 900 supervised hours: second-year students begin observation and assistant teaching in university-affiliated special education classes; third- and fourth-year students take full teaching responsibility for real classrooms in special education schools, rehabilitation centers, and mainstream school resource rooms while preparing official IEPs accepted by the Ministry, implementing daily therapy plans, and conducting parent training.Graduates receive the official “Special Education Teacher” title and are immediately eligible for KPSS appointment to Ministry of National Education special education schools, vocational schools for disabled students, rehabilitation centers, and mainstream school source rooms nationwide, or are employed instantly by top private special education and rehabilitation centers (the largest chains pay among the highest teacher salaries in Turkey). Demand is extremely high due to expanding inclusive education policies and growing private rehabilitation sector.Salaries in private centers rank among the highest of all teaching professions; experienced special education teachers in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, and Antalya frequently exceed regular classroom teachers and even many university lecturers. Socially, they command profound love and respect as the professionals who teach non-speaking autistic children to communicate, enable children with Down syndrome to read and count, help visually impaired students navigate the world independently, and unlock the potential of thousands of children society once considered “unteachable.”In short, the Bachelor of Special Education Teaching offers one of the most challenging, rewarding, and socially revered teaching careers in Turkey, combining scientific precision with daily miracles and the lifelong privilege of being the teacher who changes everything for children and families who need it most.
