Program Overview

Bachelor of Social Services (Turkish), Istanbul Medipol University

Bachelor of Social Services (Turkish) is a deeply human-centered, clinically intensive four-year undergraduate program that trains graduates to become licensed Social Workers (Sosyolog değil, Sosyal Hizmet Uzmanı) who professionally assess, intervene, and advocate for children, families, elderly, disabled, poor, addicted, refugee, and victim populations in hospitals, family and social services provincial directorates, municipalities, child protection institutions, rehabilitation centers, prisons, NGOs, and community mental-health centers throughout Turkey. From the first semester, students master the complete social work curriculum required by the Ministry of Family and Social Services: social work theories and methods (individual, group, community work), social policy and welfare systems, child protection and family counseling, medical and psychiatric social work, working with refugees and migrants, disability and elderly services, poverty and social assistance programs, human rights and social justice, research methods, ethics, and Turkish social services legislation (5395 Child Protection Law, 2828 Social Services Law, 6284 Violence Against Women Law). Clinical training exceeds 1,000 supervised field hours: second-year students begin case follow-up in university-affiliated social service centers; third- and fourth-year students complete full-time placements in Aile ve Sosyal Hizmetler provincial directorates, children’s homes (Sevgi Evleri), women’s shelters, elderly care and rehabilitation centers, hospital social service units, municipal social assistance departments, and leading NGOs (Mor Çatı, TOG, UNHCR partners, Kızılay) while managing real cases under licensed social worker supervision.Graduates receive the official “Social Worker” title, are immediately eligible for KPSS appointments to Ministry of Family and Social Services and Ministry of Health institutions nationwide, or are employed the same month by top private rehabilitation centers, international NGOs, and municipal social service units. Demand is extremely high due to Turkey’s expanding social assistance network, large refugee population, aging society, and post-earthquake reconstruction needs.Salaries in the private sector and international organizations rank among the highest of non-medical social professions, especially in Istanbul, Ankara, Gaziantep, and Şanlıurfa; public-sector appointments offer civil-servant security with rapid promotion to unit manager and provincial specialist positions. Social workers command profound respect and gratitude as the professionals who rescue children from abuse, reunite families, enable disabled citizens to live with dignity, support earthquake and disaster survivors, and fight daily on the front lines of socialjustice.Inn short, the Bachelor of Social Services offers one of the most meaningful, socially vital, and professionally respected careers in Turkey, combining scientific knowledge with direct human impact and the daily privilege of protecting the most vulnerable while building a more just society one family at a time.
