Program Overview

Bachelor of Radio, Cinema and TV (Turkish), Maltepe University

The Bachelor of Radio, Cinema and Television is a four-year undergraduate program that trains directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, editors, producers, sound designers, and new-media creators who can produce professional feature films, television series, documentaries, commercials, digital content, and transmedia projects for Turkey’s enormous and globally influential audiovisual industry. Offered at the faculties of communication and fine arts of more than sixty universities (Marmara University, Istanbul University, Ankara University, Dokuz Eylül University, İstanbul Bilgi University, Bahçeşehir University, Kadir Has University, Yeditepe University, Beykent University, İstanbul Aydın University, and many strong state and foundation programs), it is the most established and industry-connected creative degree in the country, directly feeding the world’s second-largest television-series exporter after the United States.Students receive an intensive, production-oriented education that combines artistic vision, technical mastery, and professional discipline. The first two years build a common creative and technical foundation through courses in film history and aesthetics, screenwriting fundamentals, cinematography and lighting, film and television directing, editing theory and practice (Avid, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve), sound recording and design, production design and art direction, documentary theory, television studio production, media theory, photography, acting and directing actors, and short-film workshops. The final two years focus on advanced specialization and large-scale productions: fiction directing, multi-camera television directing, advanced screenwriting (feature and series), cinematography masterclasses, color grading, visual effects and CGI basics, sound post-production, producing and budgeting, transmedia and web-series creation, experimental and avant-garde cinema, children’s and youth programming, current-affairs and magazine formats, and a full-year graduation project that consists of either a festival-quality short film, a professional pilot episode for a television series, or a feature-length documentary, all shot with industry-standard cameras (ARRI, RED, Sony Venice) and completed in university post-production facilities.More than seventy percent of the curriculum is practical: students shoot and finish at least eight to ten short films and television pieces during their studies, work as crew members on senior graduation projects, complete two mandatory internships (one in television, one in cinema or digital production) at major production companies (Ay Yapım, Acun Medya, O3 Medya, TMC, Gold Film, TRT, ATV, Kanal D, Netflix Turkey, BluTV, Gain, Exxen), advertising agencies, or post-production houses, and regularly premiere their works at national student film festivals and platforms such as !f İstanbul, Antalya Golden Orange, and Adana Film Festival.Graduates are immediately employed because Turkey produces more than a hundred television series and dozens of theatrical films annually. They work as directors, assistant directors, screenwriters, directors of photography, editors, producers, and production managers at the country’s largest production companies, television channels, streaming platforms, advertising agencies (TBWA, Publicis, Manajans JWT, Medina Turgul DDB), independent cinema companies, TRT documentary and drama departments, corporate video and digital-content studios, and increasingly create their own successful YouTube channels, web-series, or independent feature films that travel to international festivals.Starting salaries belong to the upper tier of creative graduates and rise extremely quickly with experience: successful series directors and cinematographers rapidly reach seven-figure seasonal contracts, while even entry-level assistant directors and editors at top productions earn well above average. The social prestige of radio-cinema-TV graduates has never been higher: the most popular series directors and screenwriters are national celebrities, and award-winning young filmmakers regularly represent Turkey at Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and theOscars.Inn short, the Bachelor of Radio, Cinema and Television produces confident, technically flawless, and creatively bold audiovisual storytellers who occupy the heart of Turkey’s gigantic screen industry, enjoying extraordinary creative freedom, rapid career growth, strong financial reward, and massive cultural influence in one of the world’s most dynamic and respected media landscapes.
