The Bachelor of Medicine program offered at the İzmir Faculty of Medicine is a full-time, six-year undergraduate medical education taught in Turkish. The program is structured to provide comprehensive training through a competency and output-oriented, integrated curriculum. The first three years focus on core theoretical and practical knowledge in basic medical sciences, with the first two years emphasizing the normal structure and function of body systems and an introduction to pathology and clinical sciences. The third year continues with deeper pathology studies and clinical connections. Students spend their 4th and 5th years primarily in clinical internships, gaining hands-on experience in hospital and healthcare settings. The sixth year is dedicated entirely to supervised internship placements, enabling direct patient care under professional guidance. Additionally, the faculty offers elective modules, allowing students to tailor part of their education to their specific interests. Upon successful completion of all required courses, internships, and examinations (totaling 360 ECTS credits), graduates are awarded a Medical Doctor (MD) title. Graduates can pursue careers as physicians in Turkey or abroad (subject to local regulations), or specialize further via postgraduate residency training in clinical, surgical, or research disciplines. The program is highly competitive, with a curriculum designed to cultivate scientific, clinical, and ethical competencies necessary for modern medical practice[1][5].
