Robotics and Artificial Intelligence is the interdisciplinary field that designs, builds and programs intelligent machines capable of perceiving their environment, making autonomous decisions and interacting safely with humans to perform complex tasks across industries.Students master a broad spectrum of advanced technical skills including robot kinematics and dynamics, sensor fusion using LiDAR, cameras and IMUs, real-time embedded programming with ROS and Python/C++, machine learning for object recognition and path planning, deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch for vision and natural language processing, collaborative robot (cobot) safety standards and force-torque control, industrial robot programming with ABB, KUKA and Fanuc systems, reinforcement learning for adaptive behaviours, computer vision for quality inspection and navigation, simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM), swarm robotics coordination, human-robot interaction design, ethical AI implementation, simulation environments like Gazebo and Isaac Sim, and system integration of perception, planning and actuation pipelines.Graduates enter high-demand roles such as robotics engineer, AI integration specialist, autonomous systems developer, industrial automation technician, cobot application engineer, machine vision specialist, field robotics operator, research assistant in AI-driven robotics, quality assurance engineer for smart manufacturing, service robotics programmer, medical robotics technician, and defence/autonomous vehicle system developer.The profession occupies a pivotal position in shaping the future of work and daily life because robotics and AI professionals directly enable safer factories, more precise surgery, sustainable agriculture through autonomous harvesting, efficient logistics with warehouse robots, accessible assistance for the elderly and disabled, disaster-response machines that enter environments too dangerous for humans, and the transformation of transportation through self-driving systems, making them key contributors to productivity gains, improved quality of life, and solutions to global challenges ranging from labour shortages to climate-change adaptation through intelligent automation.
