The Associate of Opticianry (Turkish) program at Istanbul Medipol University is a 2-year, full-time program taught entirely in Turkish. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in opticianry, focusing on the measurement and preparation of optical materials such as spectacle glasses and contact lenses, in accordance with ophthalmologist prescriptions. Students receive theoretical and practical instruction in areas such as spectacle glass technologies, clinical optics, lens preparation, vision optics, and optical diseases. The program aims to train students as competent intermediate health staff who can support eye-care professionals in public and private health institutions, manufacturing, or by opening their own enterprises. Upon graduation, students are awarded the title 'Optician' and are qualified to work in hospitals, optical stores, or start their own businesses. Additionally, graduates may transfer to related undergraduate programs (such as Physics, Health Management, Optical and Acoustic Engineering) through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) if they meet the applicable requirements. The program addresses the need for specialized optical personnel in Turkey’s growing healthcare sector, providing both employability and avenues for further academic development.
