The Associate of Architectural Restoration (Turkish) program is a two-year (four-semester) associate degree designed to educate restoration technicians responsible for the preservation and scientific restoration of immovable and movable architectural heritage. Students receive a combination of theoretical and practical education, covering essential subjects such as conservation principles, restoration techniques, project drawing, technical drawing, surveying of traditional structures, art and architecture history, legislation, computerized drawings, and the basics of traditional handicrafts and building materials. The curriculum prepares graduates to thoroughly understand and analyze historical buildings, document their conditions, develop restoration projects, and participate in site conservation practices. Career prospects are strong: graduates may work as restoration technicians in public agencies (notably the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, Environment and Urbanization, the General Directorate of Foundations), in museums, archaeological excavation teams, municipal units, conservation laboratories, or private restoration companies. Successful graduates may also pursue further education by transferring to relevant four-year undergraduate departments such as Architecture, Interior Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, and Traditional Turkish Arts, subject to passing Turkey’s External (DGS) Transfer Exam.
