The Associate of Architectural Restoration program is a two-year vocational degree focused on educating technicians who specialize in the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage assets, both immovable (such as historic buildings) and movable (such as artifacts). The curriculum includes theoretical and practical coursework covering areas like art and architectural history, restoration project preparation, survey and technical drawing, conservation techniques, computerized drawing, traditional handicrafts, and legislation related to cultural property. Students learn to assess the current state of structures, develop and implement restoration projects in accordance with scientific and ethical principles, and document historical artifacts using photography and other methodologies. A significant purpose is to equip graduates with sector-ready skills and conservation awareness, enabling them to act as effective intermediaries between architects and practical construction teams. Career opportunities after graduation are broad, including employment in ministries (such as Culture and Tourism), restoration laboratories, museums, archaeological sites, and private restoration firms. The program is also structured to allow for transfer via the DGS exam to four-year related bachelor’s degree programs including architecture and urban planning, traditional arts, and conservation at Turkish universities[1][2][4][5].
